Haus zur Glocke

concept

The Haus zur Glocke sees itself as a cultural meeting place for interdisciplinary contemporary art and its mediation. The four group exhibitions set a different focus and depth to the overarching annual theme. The exhibitions are accompanied by educational formats such as guided tours and artist discussions. In content and manner more experimental are the performances, readings and musical events, that also take place in the Glocke. Through the dialogue between the different disciplines, we want to strengthen synergies and appeal to an interested audience.

After a gentle renovation in 2016 was the Haus zur Glocke opend as an art venue for contemporary art. In 2018, the curatorial work was honored with the Thurgau Culture Prize and the ideal continuation was secured by founding an association. The curatorial work, which connects not only the lakeshores but also the centers of the art world, was recognized in 2020 with one of the seven sponsorship awards of the International Lake Constance Conference and since 2023 is the performance agreement with the Canton of Thurgau existing.

tavern

In the long history of the building the Haus zur Glocke formerly has been a fair-trade shop. In our tavern we have taken up this impulse and continue to work in this spirit. Every Saturday during the time of exhibition a thematic, vegetarian, regional and fairly produced soup is cooked by one of the exhibiting artists. All our guest chefs are supported by the team Haus zur Glocke.

team

Judit Villiger - director, curator, mediator and artist

Andreas Schwarz - co-curation and co-direction

Cindy Reichelt - co-curation and scientific assistant

The tavern would not work without our extended team, consisting of two dozen people from Steckborn.

association

The association supports the Haus zur Glocke, which aims to “offer thematically oriented contemporary art through various media” to an interested audience, and to bring together art and various cultural departments “for in-depth engagements and discussions”. The Förderverein Haus zur Glocke, with Humbert Entress as president, is broadly supported. Primarily financially he founds “non-profit and therefore tax-exempt organizations from the Canton of Thurgau, which implement projects for cultural mediation, eminently the Haus zur Glocke, Steckborn”. The association does so with membership fees and other donations.
