The exhibition expands on the theme of ‘private and public’ and shifts it in four artistic positions to ‘inside and outside’ in relation to the Haus zur Glocke. What they all have in common is a sculptural approach which understands dimensionality as a broad spectrum and at the same time raises questions regarding the concept of sculpture itself.

In her work, Joëlle Allet deals with the play of perception in space. In Triplés—three glass spheres mounted on metal rods, which are presented at the shore of the Untersee—subtle shifts within our focus on familiar environments are revealed. Lappalie (trifle), a large-format lithograph of vertiginously stacked vessels, is given spatiality by glass objects that have been assembled specifically for the exhibition.

Arthur Schneiter opens up another dimension with his musical stones, which he will produce in an evolved form for the Haus zur Glocke. The formal elegance of his objects and the fragility therein lets the beholder overlook the massiveness of the material. Set vibrating, Schneiter’s stones unfold their full potential: sculptures that produce sounds.

To Fredy Schweizer, a large boulder discovered in the Steckborn region serves as starting point for the artistic transformation of that which has been found in nature. Transformed into a work of art by the creative hands of the artist, the stone is shifted from public space into a protected, semi-public sphere and therewith not only the sheltered from weather in an enclosed space, but also the transferred to an institution, into the system of art.

Patrick Steffen's work plays with meaning and materiality, and thus asks about the essence of everyday phenomena. For many years, the artist has been collecting graffiti and newspaper headlines, which he transforms anagrammatically. His videos address transience or the perception of time and space. The mostly large-format graphite works play with iridescent surfaces and the mechanical deformation of paper. As 'drawings in space', they unfold a strong material presence and enter into dialogue with the sculptural works of the exhibition.
