Marlies Pekarek dedicates her diverse oeuvre to religious and historical figures and cults as well as their reception in society. She investigates the changes in custom and rituals and merges her research and artistic work. Pekarek’s special focus is on the handling of cult objects in everyday life. Frequently, such objects are mass commodities, and are integrated and transformed as such by the artist.
