Johannes Diem’s Blumenwiese / Flower meadow
Was Johannes Diem just a cranky forest and meadow painter? This is contradicted by the fact that the canton spoke large sums of money from the lottery fund to reassess the work of this painter from Ermatingen a decade ago. The book project at the time had to be discontinued due to the ever-growing workload. Nevertheless: Markus Landert of the Kunstmuseum Thurgau, for example, still wants Diem to be understood as one of the hidden treasures of local art.
A decade after the artist’s death, another opportunity for critical appreciation is offered. On the basis of a major work completed in 1976 entitled “Blumenwiese”, the Haus zur Glocke in Steckborn invites you to an interdisciplinary discussion. Under the moderation of Christoph Ullmann, art historian Lucia Angela Cavegn, natural scientist Joggi Rieder, artist Judit Villiger, and cultural journalist János Stejan Buchwardt want to explore various questions: Diem – a nature observer and misunderstood creator of magical habitats? What references to environment and world per se can or must art make? Has a re-evaluation of Johannes Diem’s work not been long overdue?
Taking into account the current precautionary measures, the event will take place on Sunday afternoon, 18 October at 2 pm, in the foyer at Turmhaus in Steckborn. A collection is planned. Registration mandatory at: info@hauszurglocke.ch
